MFA By-Laws Change
During the MFA’s Annual Members’ Meeting on November, 2007, the membership voted to make a significant change to the MFA's cycle of annual membership. Before the change, membership was held from January 1 to December 31 every year by all members. The meeting's attendees approved a measure by the Board of Directors which would change membership from a calendar basis to a revolving annual anniversary. What does this mean? If you're already a member, it will have little impact on you, if you renew your membership promptly in January as normally occurs, and your membership will continue through the end of the renewal year. For new members and those who are late renewing, membership will begin when dues are received and membership will be for an entire year from that time.
Officially, Article I, Section 9 currently reads: "Dues for all classes of Membership shall be for the calendar year and shall be fixed by action of the Board of Directors. Dues are payable annually in January and must be paid by January 31 for a member to be eligible to participate in exhibitions after that date." The Board moved and the membership approved that this section be changed to read: "Dues for all classes of membership will be due on the first of the month, one year from the first day of the month following their membership start date. Dues must be paid in full for membership to be valid and for a member to participate in exhibitions."
Additionally, the membership approved a new slate of Board officers that includes Joe Dickey as President, Steve Borko as 1st Vice President, Susan (Susi) Fuller as Treasurer and Deborah Banker as Secretary. Several new Board directors were also brought on to the Board and will officially begin their Board terms starting in January 2008. These new members are Denise Bartlett, Lesley Bender, Candice Bigelow and David Diaz.
