The Circle Gallery, the MFA’s home since 1968, is located at 18 State Circle in Annapolis, Maryland – just across the street from the beautiful domed Maryland State House. Situated among historic office buildings and inns, the entry to the gallery sits behind a black wrought iron gate with a ramp leading into the gallery.
Originally, the Circle Gallery was a storage loft for the Jones & Franklin General Store’s storefront, which was located on Annapolis’s Main Street. The building is a fine example of Greek Revival commercial architecture and was built in the 1840s. Renovated as a gallery space and opened in 1968, the Circle Gallery features original hardwood floors, drywall vertical surfaces, and professional gallery lighting and climate control, along with ample natural light. The space features the Main Gallery room, with room dividers to supply additional exhibiting space, and the smaller Holley Gallery room, named after co-founding retired US Navy Commander Charles Holley.
